Disney reveals initial UK & Ireland Star label slate
Disney has confirmed initial titles and exclusive offerings headed to its upcoming Star branded streaming offering in the UK and Ireland when it launches on Disney+ next month.
Star is Disney’s new DTC general entertainment label and is set to debut in Europe and some other international markets on 23 February, offering content from ABC Studios, Fox Television, FX and 20th Century Studios.
Subscribers in the UK and Ireland will gain exclusive access to previously announced Star Originals Big Sky and Love, Victor, as well as adult animated sitcom Solar Opposites, co-created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan (Rick & Morty) and drama series Helstrom, based on the Marvel Comics characters.
Other original projects premiering later in the year are Dopesick and The Dropout, new content from the Kardashian Jenners as well as a slate of FX originals, including The Old Man.
The service will also launch with a host of legacy shows drawn from the various Disney-owned brands which will become exclusive to Star in the UK & Ireland, including crime shows such as Castle, Bones and Lie To Me, dramas 24 and Burn Notice and sci-fi/fantasy series like Firefly and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Non-exclusive shows headed to Star include comedy series How I Met Your Mother, animations American Dad and Family Guy and supernatural show The X Files.
“Star will be an integral part of Disney+, making it bigger, bolder and even more exciting,” said Jan Koeppen, president of The Walt Disney Company EMEA. “The arrival of hundreds of TV series and movies including our exclusive Star Originals will make Disney+ the premier destination for high quality entertainment with something for everyone.”
In related news, Disney+ has also announced competition series, Foodtastic, which will challenge contestants to create Disney-inspired works of art with food.
Keke Palmer will host and executive produce the 11-episode series, which has begun production and is set to air later this year.
