Amazon to adapt ‘Summer’ trilogy; original author Jenny Han to helm
Amazon Studios has ordered an adaptation of Jenny’s Han’s young adult novel trilogy The Summer I Turned Pretty.
The eight-part series is being co-produced by Amazon Studios and US-based Wiip for Prime Video, with original author Han, who wrote the pilot, attached to showrun alongside Gabrielle Stanton.
Han, Stanton and Karen Rosenfelt will also serve as executive producers, along with Paul Lee, Nne Ebong and Hope Hartman from Wiip.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is a multigenerational drama focusing on a love triangle between one girl – Isabel ‘Belly’ Conklin – and two brothers and exploring the relationship between mothers and their children. The book series encompasses the novels The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer.
Han also wrote the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before book series and served as executive producer on all three Netflix film adaptations of the series – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, and To All The Boys: Always And Forever.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty is many years in the making and I’m so excited to tell Belly’s story in 2021,” said Han. “For the long-time book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart.”
