NBC to end cop comedy ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ after eighth season
NBC has announced that police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine will come to an end, for the second time, with its upcoming eighth season.
The Universal Television-produced show originally ran for five seasons on Fox before being cancelled and then picked up for a sixth run on NBC, where it has since remained. Production on the eighth 10-episode season was delayed due to the pandemic, but is expected to resume soon.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is exec produced by Dan Goor, Mike Schur, David Miner, Luke Del Tredici and David Phillips, and produced by Universal Television in association with Fremulon, Dr. Goor Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.
It stars Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero, Andre Braugher and Terry Crews among a cast of New York police officers at Brooklyn’s fictional 99th Precinct, ranging from the childish and inept to the super-efficient.
“I still remember the palpable excitement that night in 2018 when we announced Brooklyn Nine-Nine would be returning to its rightful home at NBC,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.
“We’ve always loved these characters and the way they make us laugh while also masterfully weaving in storylines that make us reflect as well. A big thank you to our wonderful partners – Dan Goor, the writers, producers and the incredibly talented cast and crew – for a comedy whose legacy will stand the test of time.”
