RTS appoints BBC Three’s Fiona Campbell as Northern Ireland chair

The UK’s Royal Television Society (RTS) has appointed Fiona Campbell, controller of BBC Three, to chair of its Northern Irish operations.

Campbell will succeed Vikkie Taggart, director of operations at Stellify Media, in charge of the Royal Television Society Northern Ireland Centre.

Its members include the BBC, UTV, Sky, Northern Ireland Screen, Belfast Met Film and TV School and Queens University Belfast.

She will head up the planning, facilitation and production of both physical and virtual events for members in Northern Ireland, with plans to also expand its educational outreach and support for students and entry level talent later this year.

Theresa Wise, CEO of the RTS, said: “As one of the most significant commissioners of content based outside the capital and with her home base in Belfast, Fiona is exceptionally well placed to continue to support the remarkable talent in the nation.

“I also want to extend heartfelt thanks to Vikkie for her excellent tenure as chair – latterly during the challenging circumstances of this last year. I am so pleased Vikkie is staying on the Committee.”

Campbell added: “Northern Ireland is an incredibly vibrant part of the television ecology with so much talent and potential and I’m incredibly proud to be named as chair. I’m looking forward to working with the team and building on the great work they have been doing and meeting our regional members.”

Campbell had been head of BBC Studios’ documentary unit before being appointed as BBC Three controller in 2018.
