Streaming round-up: AMC+ snags crime trio, incl Viaplay’s ‘Kin’; Disney+ orders choir docuseries
AMC+ snags int’l crime drama trio
US network AMC’s new streaming bundle service AMC+ has acquired the exclusive US rights to three crime drama series – Kin, Too Close and Cold Courage.
Kin is produced by Bron Studios and Headline Pictures, in association with RTÉ, Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) and Creative Wealth Media, with support from Screen Ireland and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI).
Peter McKenna is attached as series showrunner, executive producer, writer and co-creator and Ciarán Donnelly is co-creator. Diarmuid Goggins and Tessa Hoffe are the first and second block directors, respectively. The series stars Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne and Aidan Gillen and will launch this fall as an AMC+ Original. Currently filming in Dublin, Ireland, it tells the story of a fictional Dublin family embroiled in a gangland war.
All3Media International’s psychological thriller Too Close, is a three-part drama starring Emily Watson that that centers around a forensic psychiatrist who falls victim to the manipulations of a cunning criminal suspect.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate’s international crime drama Cold Courage is based on novels from Finnish journalist Pekka Hiltunen, with the first three episodes slated to premiere on 11 March, following the story of two women as they collide during a series of murders in present-day London.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Bron Studios, All3Media International and Lionsgate to rollout this curated slate of exceptional dramas exclusively to US audiences and AMC+ subscribers first,” said Dan McDermott, president of AMC Networks programming and co-president of AMC Studios.
Disney+ orders choir docuseries
Disney+ has ordered a six-episode unscripted docuseries about America’s Got Talent finalists, the Detroit Youth Choir.
Blumhouse Television, Maniac Production and Campfire will produce the series, titled Choir, about the group, which captured the public’s imagination through their appearance on the reality contest.
“Disney Branded Television continues to seek out creative talent that is diverse, inclusive and representative of our multi-cultural landscape, and we are proud to team with Anthony White and the young voices of the Detroit Youth Choir to present this true-to-life story that is sure to inspire audiences of all ages,” said Disney Branded Content exec vice president of creative development and strategy Ayo Davis.
