‘Killing Eve’ to conclude next year; spin-offs in development
BBC America black comedy-drama series Killing Eve is to conclude with a fourth and final season next year, but the franchise is set to continue, with a number of spin-offs in development.
Sid Gentle Films is scheduled to begin production on the final eight-episode this summer, with filming taking place in the UK and across Europe, for a 2022 premiere on the AMC Networks and BBC Studios-owned BBC America.
Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas, Sandra Oh and Laura Neal will exec produce the upcoming season, with the latter taking over as lead writer for the season. The series is financed and distributed by Endeavor Content.
Based on Luke Jennings’ Villanelle book series, Killing Eve stars Sandra Oh as a British intelligence agent and Jodie Comer as the psychopathic assassin she is assigned to capture.
AMC says that it is working with Sid Gentle Films to explore ways in which to extend the show’s “iconic universe” beyond the Killing Eve finale.
“We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show,” commented Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks. “We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe.”
“We have been unbelievably blessed to work with extraordinary human beings throughout the life of Killing Eve,” added executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle. “From the magical Phoebe, to the delectable Emerald, Suzanne and now Laura, headed by the super-powers of Sandra, Jodie, Fiona and Kim, and with brilliantly talented directors and crew. No one knew what an adventure we were embarking on and there’s so much more to come.”
