ABC acquires BBC Studios wildlife comedy format
US network ABC has picked up a new one-hour unscripted natural world comedy series, based on the BBC Studios format Walk On The Wild Side.
The series, with the working title of When Nature Calls, is produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm, with Ryan O’Dowd and K.P. Anderson attached to executive produce.
The show “will surprise and delight viewers with what comes out of the mouths of majestic beasts, teeny-tiny frogs, beatboxing badgers and more within captivating, beautiful footage from all over the world.”
The original BBC Studios Walk On The Wild Side format aired on BBC One in the UK for two seasons and featured British comedians such as Rhod Gilbert and Sarah Millican offering amusing voiceovers to wildlife footage.
BBC Studios’ LA arm is the division behind productions including Dancing With The Stars for ABC and Life Below Zero for National Geographic.
