Fremantle’s Roast Beef preps Nazi hunter doc
UK factual indie Roast Beef Productions is producing a feature-length documentary about a married couple who have spent decades tracking down Nazi war criminals.
Romanian director Alexander Nanau (Collective) is executive producing the project, titled Klarsfeld, with Mike Lerner and Martin Herring (Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer) attached to direct.
Beate and Serge Klarsfeld have travelled the world, from South America to the Middle East, hunting and exposing Nazis that fled justice. Now in their 80s, the two continue their activism against modern day far right extremists.
The film explores both their past work and their current efforts to combat fascism, featuring personal testimonies from fellow activists and family to presidents and Holocaust survivors.
Distributed internationally by Fremantle, Klarsfeld is set to launch at the end of the year.
“It has been a huge privilege to have gained the trust and cooperation of Beate and Serge to document their extraordinary lives both past and present,” commented Mike Lerner, co-director and MD at Roast Beef Productions.
“For more than half a century, the Klarsfelds have been a huge inspiration and role models for those activists who seek justice and oppose fascism and yet their story has been under appreciated by the wider world. Until now.”
Roast Beef is the prodco behind factual productions such as Channel 4 documentary Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?, which was recently picked up by indie distributor All3Media International for global distribution.
