Amazon & 3AD developing Ken Jeong-fronted dramedy

Ken Jeong on I Can See Your Voice

Amazon is developing a new half-hour single-cameras dramedy starring Ken Jeong and loosely inspired by the story of The Black Tapes podcast creator Paul Bae.

I Can See Your Voice host Jeong will star in Shoot The Moon, which is based upon the “life failures” experienced by Bae, a former school teacher and stand-up comedian who went on to become a podcast creastor.

According to Deadline, which first reported the story, the series will follow Michael (Jeong), the son of Korean immigrants whose marriage and career fall apart, sending him on a quest to reevaluate and rebuild his life.

The series is being produced by Daniel Dae Kim’s 3AD in association with Amazon Studios. Kim, who is better known for his acting roles in Hawaii Five-O and Lost, is also behind The Good Doctor, bringing the original Korean format to the US for Sony’s ABC remake. Shoot the Moon is part of Kim’s first-look deal with Amazon Studios and he will exec produce, alongside Jeong and 3AD’s John Cheng.

“Paul’s irreverent and unapologetic writing, along with Ken’s impeccable comedic skills makes this a project all of us at 3AD are very excited about,” said Kim. “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with them and Amazon to bring this unique, Model Minority Myth-busting world to life.”
