Monte-Carlo TV Festival goes hybrid, with physical return to Monaco next month

The 60^th Monte-Carlo Television Festival is to take place as a hybrid event next month, with plans to accommodate both physical and virtual participants.

The festival will return to Monaco from 18-22 June, following last year’s Covid-enforced hiatus, while also adding a virtual element to accommodate those still impacted by travel restrictions due to the pandemic.

This year’s festival includes a greatly expanded business track for industry executives, with in-depth panel discussions on timely topics and keynote conversations with both in person and virtual global television leaders.

The sessions include: ‘Upending the global film distribution model’, which examines the migration from movie theatre to streaming and ‘From true crime to docudramas to nature and wonder’, looking at the growth of unscripted content in a streaming world.

Meanwhile, a total of 27 shows from 14 countries have been to selected to compete for a coveted Golden Nymph Award at the festival, from across the Prince Rainier III Special Prize, and the news and fiction categories. The winners will be revealed at a red-carpet event at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco on the final evening on 22 June, with the festival’s honorary president, Prince Albert II of Monaco, In attendance.
