Fox Upfront: Gordon Ramsay format & BBC drama remake slated for 2021/22
US broadcaster Fox has outlined a slew of commissions and renewals, including a new cookery format with Gordon Ramsay and a remake of a BBC scripted format.
The celebrity chef will front Next Level Chef, which is being produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and Studio Ramsay.
The series sees contestants battle it out in one-of-a-kind culinary gauntlet, set on a stage more than three stories high, with each floor containing a different kitchen.
Fox has also ordered singing competition format Alter Ego for its fall schedule. Exec produced by Matilda Zoltowski (World Of Dance), this series is also being produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and will see contestants perform on stage – not as themselves, but as their alter egos.
Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, also teased during the Upfront that the network is working on an unscripted project with Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, though no specifics were shared.
Drama remakes
On the scripted side, Fox has also handed a series order to Accused, a remake of the BBC crime anthology, helmed by 24 and Homeland’s Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, and House’s David Shore.
The series will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment and will premiere in the 2022-2023 season.
Recommissions have meanwhile been handed out for a third season of animated comedy The Great North, a fifth season of medical drama The Resident and, unsurprisingly, a sixth season for music contest The Masked Singer.
Sitcom The Last Man Standing is, however, to end after its ninth season, having run for three on Fox following its original six on ABC.
Meanwhile, the Fox-branded UK channel, now owned by Disney, is set to close on 30 June. Titles such as The Walking Dead and War Of The Worlds will move to the Disney+ Star label, according to UK trade Broadcast, which broke the news.
