See-Saw Films hires Channel 4 & Pinewood TV alum as creative director

Helen Gregory

The North Water prodco See-Saw Films has appointed former Channel 4 drama commissioner Helen Gregory as its new creative director.

Gregory will be responsible for steering the creative strategy of See-Saw, developing its television slate and also working with joint MD’s Emile Sherman and Iain Canning on the company’s film strategy.

She will also be responsible for leading See-Saw’s team of executive producers across the UK and Australia, and takes up the London-based role in September, reporting into Sherman and Canning.

Gregory was most recently an executive producer on the second season of Pulse and Sister Pictures’ drama Gangs Of London for Sky in the UK and AMC in the US. She also set up her own prodco, Trapeze Entertainment, which set development projects with the BBC, Netflix, Sky and Jude Law’s production company, Riff Raff Entertainment.

She will continue to expand Trapeze’s slate after she takes up her new See-Saw role, with the appointment coming six months after See-Saw’s head of television Jamie Laurenson and TV COO Hakan Kousetta left the prodco to launch their own outfit, 60Forty Films.

Prior to Trapeze, Gregory was MD of Twelve Town (formerly Pinewood Television) and executive produced The Child In Time for BBC One. Other credits include Case Histories for the UK pubcaster, and Julian Fellowes’ Dr Thorne, which she produced for ITV and Amazon.

Gregory, who also co-created and co-executive produced The Catch for Shondaland and ABC in the US, has had previous spells at Ruby Film & Television and World Productions, and was a commissioning editor for drama at C4.

Canning and Sherman described Gregory as “a truly exceptional creative leader with deep expertise as an executive producer, commissioner and managing director, but most importantly we share a vision for distinctive, original storytelling.”

Gregory said: “See-Saw’s growth over the last year is so exciting and impressive and I’m looking forward to working with Iain and Emile and their fantastic team to further build upon that success to deliver ambitious, inventive and relevant stories for international TV and film audiences.”

See-Saw’s TV slate includes The North Water for the BBC, as well as the second season of Nick Hornby’s State Of The Union, and Slow Horses for Apple TV+.
