Indielab hires Bafta Scotland alum to oversee UK & gaming expansion

UK-based TV accelerator programme Indielab has appointed Bafta Scotland’s Beverley McMillan to the newly created position of programme producer, overseeing the company’s expansion in the UK’s nations and regions as well as into the games sector.  

McMillan’s appointment comes after the recent launch of Indielab West Yorks, a programme delivered in partnership with Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership to support the screen production industry and boost growth across West Yorkshire. The bespoke Indielab West York curriculum will consist of two strands: one aimed at TV, film and animation production and the other at gaming.

Glasgow-based McMillan will report to Indielab founder and managing director Victoria Powell and spearhead a new Indielab regional office, with responsibilities including developing new accelerators, events and training to support across the creative sector.

The exec joins Indielab from Bafta Scotland, where she has served as learning and new talent events producer since 2013, and was responsible for developing a new learning strategy and delivering programmes capable of connecting with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

“In 2021 as we move forward from Covid, the need to support creative content businesses in the UK is more urgent than ever. We have incredible talent in the UK, and in order to both sustain our global position, and grow from here, we urgently need to support new and early-stage businesses,” commented Powell.

“It’s a crucial time for the sector and I relish the opportunity to work with such a well-respected organisation to help boost growth within the screen industries,” added McMillan. “Indielab was first into the acceleration space in the screen industries and still stands head and shoulders above what others provide.”
