Foxtel orders remake of Swedish drama ‘Älska Mig’ for Oz streamer Binge
The Foxtel Group’s Australian streamer Binge has ordered Love Me, a new romantic drama series based on the Swedish show Älska Mig, with a cast headed by Lord Of The Rings trilogy star Hugo Weaving.
The 6 x 43-minute series, adapted from Josephine Bornebusch’s original Viaplay show, is described as a story about modern love experienced by different family members at three distinct times of life. Production has now begun across Melbourne.
Produced by Aquarius Films and Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia – as its first drama production – the series has also received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Film Victoria.
It is produced by Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford of Aquarius Films and executive produced by Michael Brooks and Hamish Lewis for Warner Bros. and Brian Walsh, Alison Hurbert-Burns and Lana Greenhalgh for the Foxtel Group.
Emma Freeman (Stateless) directs, while Alison Bell leads a writing team including Leon Ford, Adele Vuko and Blake Ayshford.
Weaving leads a cast including Bojana Novakovic (I, Tonya), Bob Morley (The 100), Heather Mitchell (Muriel’s Wedding), Sarah Peirse (The Hobbit), Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven), William Lodder (Wakefield), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line Of Duty) and Mitzi Ruhlmann (The Code).
“Love Me marks the first drama series to enter production for Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia and excitingly, our first project with Binge,” commented Michael Brooks, MD of Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia.
“It’s bold storytelling that we feel will cut through with audiences, being equal parts uplifting, funny and real. With our phenomenal cast and brilliant creative team including Polly and Angie from Aquarius Films, we cannot wait for everyone to enjoy it.”
