Netflix inks overall deal with ‘The Witcher’ creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich
Netflix has signed a multi-year overall deal with The Witcher creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who will write and produce scripted series and other projects for the streamer.
Schmidt Hissrich is the creator, showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix adaptation of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels, The Witcher.
She will continue in that role, as well as serving as exec producer on upcoming spin-off shows The Witcher: Blood Origins and The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, while now also working on other unrelated projects for the streamer.
Prior to taking on the fantasy franchise, Schmidt Hissrich was co-executive producer on Netflix’s Marvel superhero shows Daredevil and The Defenders, and also served in the same role on the Starz series Power. She started her writing career on NBC’s The West Wing, working on the political drama for several seasons.
“Lauren is a formidable talent with a strong creative vision and diverse skill-set that she brings to every project she touches,” commented Bela Bajaria, head of global TV at Netflix.
“Lauren’s work on The Witcher has firmly established her as both a preeminent creator and showrunner, and we’re excited to continue working with her on future projects.”
“I am so thrilled to have found my home at Netflix and can’t wait to continue what’s been an incredibly fulfilling creative partnership,” added Schmidt Hissrich. “While my heart belongs to The Witcher franchise, I equally look forward to digging in on other exciting projects for their global audience in the years to come.”
