Newen’s Pupkin launches “witty” women-focused Juliet label
Newen-backed prodco Pupkin in the Netherlands is launching Juliet, a new label concentrating on “witty stories” with a focus on cross-over and family productions.
Pupkin, which is part of the Tuvalu Media Group owned by Newen, will meanwhile maintain its focus on producing true crime programming. The company recently took a majority stake in WBM, the outfit founded by Penoza writer-director Willem Bosch.
The launch of Juliet is to support the producer’s intention of creating a “defined second profile” and will be led creatively by Iris Otten and Nathalie van der Burg, with Sander van Meurs overseeing the business.
Otten and van der Burg have been working together at Pupkin since 2009 as producer and delegate producer respectively, and are behind features such as Quality Time, Take Me Somewhere Nice and Paradise Drifters.
They are currently working on the high-end family series Lampie, based on the children’s book by Annet Schaap.
The new label “sprung from the desire to produce films and series that contribute to an optimistic society and inspire new generations,” explained the company in a press release.
“With Juliet we will be dedicating ourselves mainly to women between 30 and 50 years old, who will bring along their partner or friends to our films in the theatre and together with children can enjoy our family content,” commented Otten.
