NBC revives ‘Law & Order’ more than a decade since cancellation

US broadcaster NBC is bringing back Law & Order, more than a decade since it last aired.

The show will return with a 21st season which is being executive produced by Dick Wolf, with Rick Eid attached as writer/showrunner. Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski also exec produce. It will be produced by NBC sibling Universal Television, in association with Wolf Entertainment.

Law & Order ran for two decades before being axed in 2010 after 456 episodes, with numerous spin-offs then emerging, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: SVU.

Creator Wolf had, however, always been hopeful on returning the show and said: “There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true. This is mine.”

“Law & Order is quite simply one of the most iconic shows in television history, and the idea of continuing its legacy and partnering with Dick on an all-new season is nothing short of exhilarating,” said Susan Rovner, chairman for entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “This is great news for NBC as well as TV fans everywhere.”

A premiere date and cast will be announced at a later date.
