RTL extends ‘Sisi’ as Globoplay, Mediaset strike deals for Austrian drama

RTL Deutschland has ordered a second season of period drama Sisi ahead of its debut on the channel, while distributor Beta Film has struck sales across Lat Am and Europe.

The six-hour series has been produced by Story House and tracks the life of Austrian Empress Elisabeth, who marries Emperor Franz but fights against the strict regime within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

It has been acquired by Mediaset in Italy, Brazilian streamer Globoplay, NPO in the Netherlands, RTL in Hungary, RTVS in Slovak Republic and Viasat World for its Epic Drama channel throughout Eastern Europe, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

Beta has also recently struck sales with VTM in Belgium, while TF1 in France and Austrian pubcaster ORF are attached as broadcast partners.

The show, which had its global premiere at Canneseries yesterday, will premiere in Germany later this year on streaming platform RTL+ and linear channel RTL.
