Netflix enters ‘Swap Shop’ with Hit+Run
Netflix has acquired a new US-based reality format, Swap Shop, from New York factual outfit Hit + Run.
The series, which will debut on the platform on 9 November, follows a group of men and women who depend on a long running Tennessee radio show to buy, sell and swap all kinds of unique items that come through the airwaves.
When the Swap Shop radio show shares the scoop on sweet deals, collectors of cars, comics, creepy clown statues and more tune in with ears wide open. Every morning is filled with opportunities for collectors to hit pay dirt – so long as they know what to listen for.
Hit + Run founder Rob Shaftel, who is executive producing alongside Jerry Carita, commented: “Swap Shop is one of those rare, feel good shows with cross-generational appeal. With humor and heart, the characters are passionate and the scores are limitless.”
The prodco, which was founded in 2016, is behind a range of factual shows, from animal attack series I Was Prey for Animal Planet to Travel Channel’s paranormal show My Horror Story.
The company is currently in production on the third season of Critter Fixers: Country Vets and Pop Goes The Vet With Dr. Joya for Nat Geo Wild and Appetite For Adventure for Nat Geo.
Speaking to TBI earlier this year about the then as-yet-unannounced Netflix series, Shaftel praised the SVOD as “awesome” and said the streaming giant was “incredibly supportive” when the pandemic hit just as production was beginning.
