Spain & Britain strike MoU to drive high-end TV & film collaborations

The British Film Commission and the Spain Film Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to enhance collaboration on high-end TV and film productions between the two countries.

The MoU, which was signed yesterday at the Royal Palace of Valladolid in Spain, will see the two organisations build upon their existing relationship, which has already seen them working closely during the pandemic to help facilitate travel and production between the UK and Spain for several major TV series.

The two commissions seek to foster greater creative, commercial and cultural exchange between Spain and the UK and will also continue to support film and high-end television production in both territories.

Series to have been filmed in both countries include Netflix’s The Crown and HBO’s Game Of Thrones, as well as feature titles such as Marvel’s Eternals and Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Adrian Wootton, chief executive of the British Film Commission, said: “Now is an exciting time for the global film and high-end TV industry, with the demand for filmed content at an all-time high, and the opportunities for all growing.

“The UK and its dynamic and diverse screen industries are very much open for business and we are committed to continued collaborations with our European partners.”

Carlos Rosado, president of the Spain Film Commission, added: “We wish to share common actions with BFC aimed at create bridges between Spanish and British industry.

“Spain is at a time of special influence and is demonstrating its capacity as an audiovisual agent in Europe.”
