MIPTV confirms 2022 show, format & doc events subsumed
MIPTV organisers RX France (formerly Reed Midem) have confirmed that a 59th edition will take place in Cannes next April, but off-shoots MIPFORMATS and MIPDOC are being rolled into the main event.
The ‘reformatted’ three-day event will run 4 to 6 April and again take up residence at the Palais des Festivals.
The MipFormats and MipDoc strands will be moved into the main MIPTV event, while MipDrama – offering previews of upcoming scripted shows – will take place on Sunday 3 April.
The fifth season of Canneseries has also been confirmed, taking place 1-6 April, with other strands including the Esports BAR running alongside the market.
Organisers said a “transformed layout” would be used, featuring a new floorplan alongside “newly curated flexible meeting spaces” within the Palais des Festival. This, it added, would help “to accommodate a more engaging and holistic business environment.”
Lucy Smith, who replaced Laurine Garaude as director of MipTV & Mipcom in January, described the event’s rejigged schedule as “very timely”.
“We believe the MIP community needs the MIPTV platform this Spring more than ever as the global meeting point for their business. My role is to make sure that the MIP experience continues to excite and deliver as we evolve and streamline the format,” she added.
“The personal side of our business has never been so missed and the opportunity to meet again collectively has never been so valued. Whilst models may change over time, this remains a constant with MIPTV poised to welcome more companies back to Cannes as further countries lift restrictions.”
MIPTV’s future has been in question over recent years as numerous other events entered the TV schedule, while the last two editions were forced online because of the pandemic. RX France said that last month’s MIPCOM had attracted 4,500 delegates from 35 countries.
