Ridley Scott confirms ‘Blade Runner’ series in works
British director Ridley Scott has confirmed that a live action TV series based upon his 1982 sci-fi film Blade Runner is in the works.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Scott revealed that he had already “written the pilot for Blade Runner” as well as its bible which outlined a planned 10-episode series.
The original film, Blade Runner, was based on the Philip K Dick novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep, and was set in the dystopian then-future of 2019, starring Harrison Ford as a detective on the hunt for rogue androids that looked human.
The film received a 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, starring Ford and Ryan Gosling, while an anime series based on the franchise, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, debuted on Adult Swim earlier this month.
“We’re already into having written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible, so we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, which will probably be the first 10 hours,” said Scott.
The director also commented upon Noah Hawley’s previously announced live action series set in the world of Alien, another of Scott’s acclaimed sci-fi features, for FX.
The project, which Scott is not involved in, was described last year as “the first Alien story set on Earth” by FX boss John Landgraf.
Scott told the BBC that “Alien is a similar thing. Alien is now being written for pilot.”
