‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ moves from Netflix to WOW Presents Plus in UK
The next series of World of Wonder’s drag competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race will make its exclusive UK streaming debut on the company’s own SVOD service WOW Presents Plus, rather than Netflix.
The upcoming 14th season of the original US version of the show, which looks to uncover and crown America’s next drag superstar, will premiere on the service on 8 January 2022, moving platforms after having made its UK debut on streaming giant Netflix in previous seasons.
Subscribers of WOW Presents Plus will be able to view to new episodes of the latest 16-part season of RuPaul’s Drag Race weekly, immediately followed by episodes of companion show RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, both airing simulcast in the UK at the same time that they debut on VH1 in the US.
The UK version of the competition format, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, meanwhile, streams on BBC Three via BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Wow Presents Plus in the US.
The popular franchise expanded with the launch of a Spanish edition, Drag Race España, earlier this year and the announcement of the upcoming Filipino iteration, Drag Race Philippines.
Speaking to TBI, World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey said that drag is “big impact for the small screen, perfect for TV” and revealed their plans to expand into scripted programming, with a number of projects in development.
