Acorn TV & TVNZ spend a second season ‘Under The Vines’
AMC Networks-owned SVOD service Acorn TV and New Zealand broadcaster TVNZ have renewed romantic comedy series Under The Vines for a second season.
The sophomore order comes just over a week since the New Zealand comedy made its season one premiere on the US streamer and head of its early 2022 debut on TVNZ 1.
Created and co-written by Erin White and produced by Libertine Pictures and EQ Media Group, in association with Hardy White Pictures, the series stars Rebecca Gibney and Charles Edwards as two unlikely city slickers who inherit a failing vineyard in rural New Zealand.
The new season will follow the duo as they continue to navigate running the Otago winery they inherited – as well as their complicated feelings for each other.
Production on the six-episode second season will commence early 2022 in Central Otago, New Zealand. Acorn TV has all rights worldwide, with the exception of TVNZ in New Zealand.
Producer Paul Yates will also join the second season of Under The Vines to take the helm, having recently wrapped production on the final series horror-comedy Wellington Paranormal.
He said that he was “stoked” to be asked to produce the next series and added that “The idea of making a fun romantic comedy in the heart of New Zealand’s best wine region during these tough times really appealed.”
Series lead Gibney, who also serves as an executive producer, said that the renewal “shows such enormous faith in our series and I am very grateful to Acorn TV and TVNZ for their amazing support.
