ITV orders second season of ‘The Masked Dancer’

UK broadcaster ITV has commissioned a second season of entertainment format The Masked Dancer from Argonon-owned indie Bandicoot Scotland.

ITV has ordered a further eight episodes of the local adaptation of the South Korean format, which is a spin-off from The Masked Singer, the popular music format which will also soon launch its third season on the network.

The Masked Dancer, which is executive produced by Derek McLean, Daniel Nettleton, Claire Horton and Iain Peckham, sees 12 celebrities dancing while disguised with masks.

Joel Dommett hosts, while judges Oti Mabuse, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan try to guess the identities of the mystery dancers, with one of them eliminated each week.

“Only on The Masked Dancer would dancing flamingos, frogs and car washes keep the nation on the edge of their seats, so we’re very happy to bring back more of the same bonkers entertainment in 2022,” commented ITV head of entertainment commissioning Katie Rawcliffe.

Scotland-based Bandicoot was founded in 2017 by MD Derek McLean and creative director Daniel Nettleton in a joint venture with UK group Argonon. Its slate, aside from the Masked franchises, includes Test Drive for BBC Scotland and BBC One quizzer Chase The Case.
