‘Star Trek: Discovery’ named Paramount+ ‘most-watched’ original
ViacomCBS-owned streamer Paramount+ has revealed its most-watched shows of 2021, with Star Trek: Discovery its most popular original series.
The show returned for its fourth season this year and took top spot on the originals list, with iCarly – which follows the influencer and her friends as they navigate work, love and family as adults – taking second spot.
Paramount+, which rebranded from CBS All Access last year, did not reveal how many people had watched the shows or how many hours they had been watched for, unlike Netflix, but instead broke down its most-watched across numerous other categories.
The streamer’s most-watched genre was kids & family, Paramount+ said, with reality and crime coming in a close second and third, respectively, while drama Mayor Of Kingstown was the most-watched original series in its first 30 days and is the most-watched series on the service this quarter.
Emily Blunt’s horror show A Quiet Place Part II was the most-watched female-led movie or series, Seal Team was the most-watched drama, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars drove the most social traffic.
The streamer added that the ‘peak driver’ for new subscribers was live sports, led by its NFL coverage.
