Channel 5 & PBS Masterpiece extend ‘All Creatures’ for two seasons
ViacomCBS-owned Channel 5 in the UK and PBS Masterpiece in the US have handed a double season renewal to period drama All Creatures Great And Small.
The series, which is based on the books by British author James Herriot, will return for as third and fourth season, with filming set to resume in the UK this spring.
Each season will have six episodes, while the order also includes two further Christmas specials, with the third season expected to debut later this year.
The upcoming instalment of the series, which follows a trio of veterinary surgeons working in Yorkshire in the 1930s, moves the action to 1939, with the threat of the Second World War looming large.
Change is also on the cards for James and Helen, who are set to embark “on the next chapter of their lives as the wider world around them heads toward a period of great uncertainty.”
Playground Entertainment (Wolf Hall) produces the series, which is distributed by All3Media International, and stars Nicholas Ralph, Samuel West and Anna Madeley.
Ben Vanstone serves as head writer, while Brian Percival is lead director and executive producer alongside Colin Callender, Melissa Gallant, Louise Pedersen, David Swetman, Rebecca Eaton and Susanne Simpson. Richard Burrell produces.
ViacomCBS UK deputy director of programmes Seb Cardwell commented that: “It is clear that our viewers adore James Herriot’s adventures in Darrowby and so do we at Channel 5. I am looking forward to us all being reunited with the Skeldale House family when series three arrives on our screens this year.”
