Netflix, Shondaland & Paul William Davies unveil thriller ‘The Residence’
Netflix has ordered its latest series from Shonda Rhimes’ prodco Shondaland, this time a White House-set murder-mystery thriller.
The Residence has been inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: Inside The Private World Of The White House and is from showrunner/executive producer Paul William Davies.
Davies, like Rhimes and Betsy Beers, will exec produce as part of their respective overall deals with Netflix.
The show is described as “a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
The eight-parter is the latest series for Davies, who was the creator, executive producer and showrunner of For The People. He was also a writer on Shondaland’s ABC drama Scandal and has developed comedies for NBC, Fox, and Sony.
The Residence joins other Shondaland shows on Netflix including Bridgerton and Inventing Anna. The prodco struck its first deal with the streamer in 2017 and extended the pact in 2021.
