Viaplay seeks ‘The Meaning Of Life’ in new Swedish original drama
NENT Group streamer Viaplay has commissioned Swedish drama The Meaning Of Life (aka Meningen Med Livet) as its latest original series.
The eight-part series, which is produced by Sussan Treshow for FLX and created by Maria Nygren (The Lawyer) and Tove Eriksen Hillblom (Solsidan) will launch exclusively on the platform in autumn 2022.
The Meaning Of Life tells the story of Alva (Celie Sparre), who wants nothing more than to become a parent together with boyfriend Nico (Hannes Fohlin), but it’s just not happening. Meanwhile, her sister Ellen (Helena af Sandeberg) has three children with husband Alex (Ulf Stenberg) – and dearly wishes she hadn’t.
Filming is currently underway on the series in Stockholm, with global distribution handled by Viaplay Content Sales.
The commission comes as part of Viaplay’s aim to premiere at least 70 originals this year and follows recent orders for Dutch shows Something Stupid and The Guilty as the streamer launched in the Netherlands last week.
Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group CCO, commented: “Our latest Viaplay Original is based on its creators’ personal experiences. It handles sensitive questions with a deft touch and portrays characters who will be instantly recognisable for many viewers.
“The Meaning Of Life is warm, difficult, humorous and unpredictable – just like relationships themselves.”
