‘Crime’ pays for Cineflix with global deals

Broadcasters and platforms including Canadian pubcaster CBC and RTE in Ireland have acquired Irvine Welsh’s Crime, following deals with distributor Cineflix Rights.

VRT in Belgium, POLAR+ and CANAL+ Group in France, NPO in the Netherlands, Hot and Yes in Israel, Magenta TV in Germany, and Corus in Canada have also picked up the shows, alongside Britbox USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The deals follows the recent announcement that Britbox/ITVX had commissioned a second season of the drama, which is produced by Buccaneer Media and distributed internationally by Cineflix Rights.

James Durie, head of scripted, Cineflix Rights said: “Irvine Welsh’s Crime has been a great success with both critics and audiences alike on Britbox.

“We’re delighted to be closing these deals with international buyers and we’re thrilled to be able to offer another season to clients. With other conversations at an advanced stage, we are looking forward to closing further sales at MIPTV.”

Kids In The Hall

FilmRise takes ‘Kids In The Hall’ rights

FilmRise, the New York-based film and television studio and streaming network, has acquired Broadway Video’s Canadian sketch comedy series Kids In The Hall.

FilmRise has acquired SVOD, AVOD and FAST streaming rights and across the FilmRise Streaming Network including the FilmRise Comedy branded app.

The deal includes all five seasons (110 episodes) of the show, which is being rebooted by Amazon with all five cast members of the Toronto-based comedy show returning.

Max Einhorn, FilmRise’s SVP of co-productions and Acquisitions commented: “Since Amazon’s announcement of their plans to reboot the series, there has been overwhelming demand from fans to re-watch the original episodes. We are excited to bring both die-hard fans and a whole new generation the entire series to stream on their favourite platforms.”

MHZ snags Canal+ originals

US streaming service MHz Networks has picked up a raft of originals from France’s Canal+.

The Canal+ Creation Originale series include season one and two of mystery comedy UFOs, along with period crime drama Paris Police (currently in production on its second season).

The deal, struck via StudioCanal, also includes a renewal for the entire eight seasons of the multiple award-winning, iconic crime drama Spiral. MHz has taken VOD and home entertainment rights on all shows.

Bell Media buys from Electric Entertainment

Bell Media in Canada has picked up three new shows from LA-based Electric Entertainment.

The Ark, Leverage: Redemption and Almost Paradise will be available across Bell Media’s English-language linear and streaming platforms.

The deal was negotiated by Nolan Pielak, SVP of international distribution for Electric Entertainment and Brian Blazik for Bell Media.
