France’s TF1 & Viaplay join Acorn TV drama ‘Cannes Confidential’

French broadcaster TF1 and Viaplay in the Nordics are onboard upcoming six-part drama Cannes Confidential, which has started production.

The show, which was commissioned by AMC Networks-owned streamer Acorn TV last year, centers on the relationship between an idealistic, local underdog female cop and an ex-conman who are forced to work together to solve crimes in each episode.

The drama’s arc focuses on the main character’s quest to find the criminals who framed her father, a local-hero police officer who was jailed for a crime he did not commit.

It will be produced by Patrick Nebout’s Skyverse Studios and has been created by Chris Murray, who was behind Acorn TV’s Agatha Raisin.

The series is believed to be the first English-language procedural drama to be produced and set on the Cote d’Azur since action-adventure comedy The Persuaders, starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis. The new show will have exclusive access to film across the City of Cannes, which enables the series to use the trademark-protected name ‘Cannes’ in the show title.

Lucie Lucas (Clem), Jamie Bamber (Strike Back), and singer/actor Tamara Marthe (Profilage) are among the cast. Camille Delamarre (The Transporters) will direct all six episodes.

Acorn TV holds exclusive distribution rights in North America, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, while Viaplay holds rights in the Nordics, Baltic countries, and Poland. Acorn TV’s parent, Acorn Media Enterprises and Acorn Media International, hold all other territories.
