Sky links with Expectation for true crime docuseries about ‘Rettenden Murders’

UK-based pay TV operator Sky is expanding its true crime docuseries output with a show about one of Britain’s most notorious crimes.

The Essex Murders (working title) is from UK prodco Expectation and will explore the so-called Rettenden Murders in the mid 1990’s, which led to two men being jailed for life who still maintain their innocence.

The story revolves around three men involved in the ecstasy trade who were founds shot dead in 1995 in Essex. The victims were identified as violent criminals, but the show promises to delve deeper into the headlines to explore if the men convicted of the murders are guilty.

The three-parter will air later this year on Sky Documentaries, joining a raft of factual content unveiled by Sky yesterday.

Colin Barr, creative director for factual & factual drama at Expectation, said: “The Essex Murders will attempt to separate out the truth from the mythology, examining the evidence and taking the viewer on a journey into the heart of nineties rave culture and the dark under-belly of organised crime.”

Expectation was launched in February 2017 by Peter Fincham and Tim Hincks.
