Starzplay takes European rights to France Télévisions drama ‘Ouija’
Starzplay has joined France Télévisions and Fremantle’s French-language drama Ouija.
The supernatural coming-of-age story is from Thomas Bourguignon and Jörg Winger, with filming recently starting in Nice, France, and its surrounding area, Gorges du Verdon.
Starzplay has taken first run rights in Germany and German-speaking Europe including Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain and the Nordics, with second-run distribution rights taken in France.
The six-episode series focuses on the events of a French-German school exchange in rural France during the 1982 World Cup, with Katharina Schüttler among the cast.
It follows characters from three generations – one who fought during World War II, one who rebuilt Europe during the Cold War, and one enjoying the peace the prosperity of the 1980s – as they investigate a tragedy that took place in the village during 1944.
Winger (Deutschland 83/86/89) executive produces for his Big Window firm, while Stéphanie Carrère is attached for Kwaï.
Ouija marks the first co-production between Fremantle’s Kwaï and Big Window, the latter of which is part of UFA Fiction.
