Moonbug’s content chief David Levine departs after 18 months
Former Disney exec David Levine is stepping down from Cocomelon outfit Moonbug Entertainment after 18 months as its chief content officer.
Levine landed at Moonbug in December 2020 and worked on shows including Netflix’s Little Baby Bum: Music Time and Blippi’s Treehouse for Amazon Kids+.
His exit comes six months since the Rene Rechtman-led UK animation firm became part of Candle Media last year in a $3bn deal and just a week after Moonbug acquired One Animation, the Singapore-based media company and production studio behind children’s animation Oddbods.
His next move is not yet known and a replacement is yet to be named by Moonbug.
Confirming his exit on LinkedIn, Levine wrote: “It’s been a great experience leading the Moonbug Studio team, producing 25+ digital-first series; original CoComelon, Blippi and Little Baby Bum series for top streamers like Netflix and Amazon Kids+; scores of albums, podcasts for Spotify and more; bringing content to kids worldwide in over 25 languages; and expanding representation in our content.
“The time has come for me to explore new areas, and I’m looking forward to new adventures. A fond thanks to Rene for the opportunity and to an incredible team. Onwards!”
Levine was previously VP of kids programming for Disney Channels Europe & Africa, and UK & Ireland, where he oversaw the direction of original production and developed and commissioned shows including First Class Chefs, The Lodge, 101 Dalmatian Street and Evermoor.
He also launched and commissioned multiple seasons of global hits PJ Masks and Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug & Cat Noir.
Before joining Disney, Levine was VP at Ragdoll USA and also served at The Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Company, where he supported the Teletubbies franchise in North America and South America.
