Disney APAC partners with HYBE on South Korean music content deal
The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific has partnered with Asian lifestyle platform HYBE to bring South Korean music and entertainment content to its streaming services.
The deal covers the global distribution of five HYBE titles, including two exclusive series featuring pop icons BTS, with the aim of bringing the content to the attention of global audiences.
Three of the titles heading to Disney streamers, including Disney+, have so far been announced, including BTS – Permission To Dance On Stage – LA. The concert film features BTS’ live performance in Los Angeles’ Sofi Stadium in November 2021, where they performed hit songs such as ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission To Dance’.
In The Soop : Friendcation is an original travel reality show with a cast including V of BTS, Itaewon Class’ Seo-jun Park, Parasite star Woo-shik Choi, Hyung-sik Park, and Peakboy. The program features the five friends venturing on a surprise trip and enjoying a variety of leisure and fun activities.
Meanwhile, BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star is an original docuseries that offers access to a vast library of music and footage from over the past nine years, with the programme following the daily lives, thoughts and plans of BTS members, as they prepare for their second chapter. The series will be available exclusively on Disney’s streaming services next year.
Disney said that the strategic collaboration will allow it to introduce a series of new titles from HYBE over the next few years, as the entertainment platform continues to produce content based on its music and artists IPs.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with HYBE to showcase their original content created with powerful artist IP on our global streaming services including Disney+,” said Jessica Kam-Engle, Disney APAC’s head of content.
“This collaboration represents our creative ambition – to work with iconic content creators and top stars in Asia Pacific so their talent can be enjoyed by mainstream audiences in multiple ways. We believe these new titles will captivate consumers worldwide and look forward to introducing more music content on our service.”
