Channel 4 hires Shiny Button co-founder as senior comedy commissioner
UK broadcaster Channel 4 has appointed Andy Brereton as senior commissioning editor for comedy.
Brereton will report into newly appointed head of comedy Charlie Perkins and joins commissioning editor Laura Riseam and commissioning executive Joe Hullait.
He will join later this year from Shiny Button Productions – a company he established with Tom Davis and James De Frond – where he served as co-MD. The company was behind shows such as King Gary, Murder They Hope, upcoming Amazon comedy film Your Christmas or Mine and Channel 4’s The Curse.
Prior to that he was head of development at Tiger Aspect, creating Murder In Successville, Crackanory, Murder on the Blackpool Express and Drunk History.
“Andy’s a triple threat and I’m thrilled to have him joining our team. He brings with him an incredible track record for conceiving, marshalling and delivering inventive shows which push the boundaries of scripted comedy,” said Perkins.
“I have loved every minute at Shiny Button with Tom and James, forging a great place to work for creative people. Growing ideas, talent and vision. I plan to use these skills to support our amazing indie community in producing their best ideas, and help shape Charlie’s new vision for Channel 4 comedy,” added Brereton.
