YouTuber Joe Sugg launches prodco, with BBC Studios backing
Digital creator, actor, author and entertainment personality Joe Sugg is launching a new unscripted prodco, with backing from BBC Studios.
Final Straw Productions will focus on developing entertainment and factual entertainment formats for audiences of all ages, with the development, production, and distribution deal giving BBC Studios a first-look on all its content.
Sugg is UK-based YouTuber, actor and author, whose videos cover vlogs, pranks, impressions and gaming, across his three channels. He is also the author of the graphic novel series Username: Evie and wrote, starred and executive produced the travelogue specials Joe and Caspar: Hit The Road and Hit The Road USA, both of which are available on Netflix.
As part of the deal, BBC Studios’ Sacha Grimsditch will join Final Straw Productions as development executive to support Sugg as he establishes the business. Grimsditch’s credits include Celebrity Big Painting Challenge, Top Gear, Little Mix: The Search and Game Of Clones.
“I am really excited to partner with BBC Studios on this future venture with Final Straw Productions. My head has always been so full of ideas, so to be able to have the opportunity to build a great team who can help bring these ideas to life with the backing of BBC Studios and their guidance and expertise is fantastic,” said Sugg.
Helen O’Donnell, head of BBC Studios TalentWorks added: “Joe is a fantastic creator who entertains and delights audiences across a range of platforms including his successful YouTube channel, on screen, as a podcast host and through his writing. He’s a creative force, and we’re so pleased that BBC Studios will continue to work with him during the next stage of his career.”
