Asacha Media Group buys French producer SRAB Films
Red Planet Pictures owner Asacha Media Group (AMG) has made its latest acquisition, this time picking up Paris-based scripted production company SRAB Films.
The prodco was founded in 2015 by Toufik Ayadi and Christophe Barral, producing shows including Ladj Ly’s Les Misérables as well as Kery James and Leïla Sy’s Banlieusards for Netflix. It is also behind Saint-Omer, Alice Diop’s first feature movie.
As per previous Asacha deal, Ayadi and Barral will become shareholders of AMG, while SRAB will use the Asacha group “to accelerate and perpetuate its development”, working with other companies from the group on European co-productions. Financial details were not revealed.
AMG, which was launched in 2020 by Endemol Shine Group alum Marina Williams and former Zodiak Media execs de Chavagnac and Marc-Antoine d’Halluin, secured a €41m ($47m) investment earlier this year with asset management firm Tikehau Capital to enable its acquisition activities to increase.
The group already owns companies including Kabo Family, the French scripted firm behind Amazon’s Mixte and M6’s En Famille, as well as being home to Sanditon and Death In Paradise producer Red Planet. Factual producer and distributor WAG Entertainment is also part of the group.
De Chavagnac and Williams, Asacha’s co-CEOs, said the deal would “reinforce” its talent pool, while Ayadi and Barrel added that the acquisition would “help us achieve many great challenges while staying true to our beliefs and core values.”
AMG is backed by Oaktree Capital Management and also owns majority stakes in Italian production houses Picomedia and Stand By Me, as well as French production company Mintee Studio.
