Netflix axes ‘Resident Evil’ & film exec

Netflix has cancelled horror series Resident Evil after just one season and just a little over a month since its debut.

The streamer has reportedly opted not to renew the show, which is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, due to low ratings and viewership.

In related news, the streamer’s VP of original film, Tendo Nagenda, is to exit this week as part of a restructure of the service’s studio film team.

Nagenda joined Netflix from Disney in 2018, working on films such as The Harder They Fall and Da 5 Bloods.

YouTube CBO to exit

YouTube’s chief business officer, Robert Kyncl, is to exit the company in early 2023 after more than 12 years at the video hosting platform.

He will be succeeded in the role, from 3 October, by Google veteran Mary Ellen Coe, who most recently served as president of Google Customer Solutions.

Kyncl is leaving “to start the next chapter in his career,” according to a memo to staff sent by CEO Susan Wojcicki.
