SkyShowtime lines up Nordic launch date & programming offer

Yellowjackets

Comcast and Paramount have unveiled the launch date, cost and show line-up for its combined streamer SkyShowtime.

The streamer, first revealed in mid-2021, will debut on 20 September in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, followed by an expansion into the Netherlands later in Q4. The roll-out will continue across Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) in the first three months of 2023.

The Nordic expansion will see SkyShowtime replacing Paramount+ and offering shows from Comcast and Paramount brands, including Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, Showtime, Sky Studios and Peacock.

Local original series, documentaries and specials will also feature, with the streamer hiring former BBC Studios exec Jon Farrar earlier this year to lead programming.

Show line-up & movie strategy

Programming will differ depending on region but the streamer’s Nordic offering will include Paramount+ series such as Halo, Yellowstone, The Offer and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as well as Showtime originals ranging from Yellowjackets and Dexter: New Blood, to the upcoming American Gigolo.

Shows from Sky include The Rising and The Fear Index, while series from NBCUniversal sibling Peacock include the 21st season of Law & Order.

The streamer, which will cost 6.99 in Finland, SEK 79 in Sweden, NOK 79 in Norway and DKK 69 in Denmark, will also feature the exclusive TV premieres of first-run theatrical films from Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures.

Movies available will include Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Northman, among numerous others.

The service will be available direct-to-consumer via the SkyShowtime app and via Nordic operators. These include Allente, RiksTV, Ruutu, Sappa, Strim, Telenor, Tele2, Telia, Telmore and YouSee from Nuuday Group, and TV 2 Play.

CEE markets include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Specific launch dates and pricing in these markets will be announced in the coming months.
