Apple TV+ lands Vince Gilligan & Rhea Seehorn scripted project

Better Call Saul

Apple TV+ has landed the next much-anticipated project from Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan, with the show’s star Rhea Seehorn set to lead.

The untitled series has been handed a two-season order from Apple TV+, which secured the show following intense competition from others including Amazon, according to US trade Deadline.

It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television (SPT), where Gilligan has an overall deal, and marks his first project since Breaking Bad and prequel, Better Call Saul. The latter ended its six-season run on AMC in the US and Netflix globally this summer.

Gilligan will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Jeff Frost and Diane Mercer also executive produce, with Jenn Carroll producing for High Bridge Productions.

Few details are available on the plot but Gilligan said: “After 15 years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes, and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?”

The show will reunite Gilligan with former Sony execs Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who joined Apple TV+ four years ago having previously greenlit Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad while at SPT.

It also marks the latest Apple TV+ and Sony partnership. The two companies are working on space drama For All Mankind, which is in production on its fourth season, while Dark Matter starring Joel Edgerton is also from the US studio. Murder-mystery comedy The Afterparty and upcoming Platonic also hail from the Sony lot.
