Critical Content owner SK Global acquired by UK investment firm Centricus

SK Global, the production and finance firm that acquired Catfish producer Critical Content earlier this year, has been bought by UK-based investment outfit Centricus.

The acquisition will see SK’s co-CEO’s Charlie Corwin and John Menotti become CEO and chief creative officer respectively, with remits across TV and film. Elsewhere, SK’s founder Sidney Kimmel retains his role as chairman and Matt Aragachi is still CFO.

Centricus, which bought Critical Content in January and has also been linked with a move for Ron Howard and Brian Glazer’s Imagine Entertainment, will also provided capital for further acquisitions via SK Global.

SK’s slate includes the second season of Delhi Crime and recent release Thai Cave Rescue for Netflix, while films from the firm have included Crazy Rich Asians.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Corwin said: “With the rapid expansion of platforms and theatrical releases around the world, this is a unique time of great opportunity for independence at scale. We look forward to working with the Centricus team, who share our vision for a truly global independent studio.”

Penotti added: “This new ownership will drive our continued investment in franchise IP, A-list talent and strategic acquisitions in the US and around the world.”
