News round-up: WBD Italy & Polsat acquire Putin doc; eOne strikes Paul Andrew Williams pact
WBD Italy & Polsat acquire Putin doc
Warner Bros. Discovery Italy and Poland’s Polsat have acquired Vladimir Putin: Power At Any Cost, a documentary about the Russian president’s rise to power.
Distributed by Quintus Studios, the 1 x 60-minute title was produced by the in-house production team at German broadcaster Welt24, and explores how Putin built an effective propaganda machine and his brand of autocratic power politics.
“It is great to see Vladimir Putin: Power At Any Cost being picked up in Italy and Poland. In these challenging times it’s important to understand the background of the conflict and the background to international economic and social relationships,” said Anouk van Dijk, head of sales & co-productions at Quintus Studios.
eOne strikes Paul Andrew Williams pact
Entertainment One (eOne) has struck an exclusive multi-year first-look deal with writer, director and producer Paul Andrew Williams (A Confession, Bull).
Under the pact, Williams will work closely with Sharon Hughff, eOne’s creative director, scripted television, UK, to develop scripted series for all platforms spanning broadcast, cable and streaming.
Williams recently directed all episodes of limited series The Walk-In starring Stephen Graham and written by Jeff Pope for ITV, debuting in October.
“Paul has proved himself as an exceptional director and writer in the UK and beyond. In a career spanning many decades, Paul has effortlessly moved between film and television winning many accolades along the way,” commented Hughff.
