Disney streamers combine for FX adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘Never Let Me Go’
Disney-owned FX has ordered a small screen adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, Never Let Me Go, which will debut across Mouse House-owned streamers globally.
The drama has been written by Melissa Iqbal, who is also attached a showrunner, and will be available on Hulu in the US, Star+ in Latin America and under the Star tile on Disney+ elsewhere.
US-based DNA Productions – which produced the 2010 movie inspired by the novel – is also attached, alongside FX Productions and Searchlight Television.
Alex Garland, who wrote the 2010 film’s script, is exec producer with Ishiguro on the series, while Tracey Ullman, Viola Prettejohn and Kelly Macdonald star.
The sci-fi story follows a teenage clone who sets off a revolution after rebelling against being locked away from society.
FX Entertainment president, Gina Balian, said the drama would “explore timely and unsettling themes on life and the ethics of technology.”
