FX restructures top team, as original programming duo take on Eric Schrier remit

Disney-owned FX has restructured its senior management remits, with original programming duo Nick Grad and Gina Balian gaining additional responsibilities.

Grad and Balian, who were presidents of originals, are now presidents of FX Entertainment and will report directly to John Landgraf, chairman of FX Content and FX Productions.

The duo had reported into Eric Schrier, who left earlier this year to become president of Disney Television Studios & Business Operations, and will now take on his previous remit. They will continue to oversee development and current series, but also production, casting and business affairs.

Execs reporting into the duo include development EVP Kate Lambert, EVP of current Jonathan Frank, EVP of casting Michael Katcher, and business affairs EVP, Kelly Cline.

As a result of the reorganisation, the roles of president of original programming roles have been axed.

Balian and Grad have been with FX for more than a decade, with a strong of hits to their names including The Americans, American Crime Story, Atlanta and Fargo, among numerous others.

Landgraf said the duo “have played an integral role in the success and growth of FX, building an outstanding team, and it gives me great comfort knowing they, with a combined 30 years of experience at FX, will continue to be anchors of creative stability, fearless risk taking and excellence for the FX brand moving forward.”

Former HBO exec Balian joined FX in 2012 to lead limited series, while Grad has been with the company since 2002, initially joining as VP of development. He previously worked for Columbia TriStar.
