Netflix snags NBCU’s Girls5eva

Netflix has picked up the third season of Girls5eva, which had previously been streamed by NBCUniversal’s Peacock.

The comedy, which is produced by Tina Fey, was created by Meredith Scardino and produced by NBCU’s Universal Television.

It is unusual for shows to move between streamers, but US reports suggest Girls5eva had been cancelled by Peacock prior to its pick-up by Netflix.

Lionsgate+ extends Serpent Queen

Lionsgate+ has ordered an eight-episode second season of The Serpent Queen. News of the renewal comes ahead of the series’ season one finale airing this Sunday, 30 October.

The historical drama explores the life of Catherine de Medici, who against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history. It is produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.

ORF renews Prime deal

Austrian network ORF has picked up documentary Daphné du Maurier: In Rebecca’s Footsteps following a deal with Parisian distribution and production company, Prime Entertainment Group.

The special explores the author’s work that inspired and was subsequently adapted into Alfred Hitchcock’s films such as Jamaica Inn, The Birds and Rebecca.

It is sold globally by Prime, which has previously licensed docs such as New Orleans – In the Heat of Night to ORF.
