Canal+ expands docs with Espresso deal

Canal+ in France has struck a 12-hour doc deal with Espresso Media International that will see shows headed to Canal+ Docs, Planete+ Crime and Planete+.

The cross-platform package includes extreme sports documentary American Daredevil, which will make its French premiere on Canal+ Docs. The special, which is also airing on Foxtel in Australia, traces the incredible life and tragic death of 23-year-old adventurer Johnny Strange, the youngest person ever to summit the highest peak on all seven continents.

Canal+ Docs and Planete+ Crime have also taken three-part true crime series Monster In The Shadows (3 x 45 minutes), which debuted on Peacock in the US and explores the disappearance of Brittney Wood, as well as History’s Greatest Warbirds.

Netflix extends Witcher

Netflix has extended The Witcher into a fourth season and named Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill.

The rejig comes ahead of the show’s third season debut next year, while a prequel – The Witcher: Blood Origin – was ordered in 2020 and will make its bow in December.

Last Cowboy rides again

Paramount’s US network CMT has extended The Last Cowboy – the competition show from Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan – into a third season.

The series returns on 18 November and takes an inside look at the lives of today’s cowboys and cowgirls as they compete in the sport of horse reining – a Western-based competition consisting of horses guided through a precise pattern of circles, spins and stops.

US duo Truly Original and 101 Studios are attached to produce.
