‘Fate: Winx Saga’ world to continue after Netflix cancellation
The world of Netflix series Fate: The Winx Saga will live on following the cancellation of the live-action Netflix series, according to show creator Iginio Straffi.
The teen fantasy series, based on the animated Nickelodeon series Winx Club, was cancelled this week after two seasons on the global streamer.
However, taking to social media, Straffi revealed he is working on “many exciting Winx projects in the near future,” including a “brand new CG Winx animated series reboot” and a “big budget Winx movie”.
Viaplay extends ‘Furia’
Nordic streamer Viaplay has extended drama series Furia for a second season.
Created by Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, the series is set in the world of right wing terrorism and is co-produced by Paprika Studios, part of Viaplay Studios, and Monster Scripted, with global sales handled by Viaplay Content Distribution.
The second season takes place two years after the first, following security police agents Ragna (Ine Marie Wilmann) and Asgeir (Pål Sverre Hagen) as they continue to battle extremist forces in Norway.
However, when an undercover mission goes wrong, the two are forced into a new race against time to foil a terrorist plot that takes them from the Arctic landscape of Lofoten to Budapest’s cobbled streets and the bustling heart of Warsaw.
Kino Lorber acquires MHz Choice
US film distribution company Kino Lorber has acquired global media company MHz Networks, parent of North American SVOD service MHz Choice.
The newly combined company, Kino Lorber Media Group, can now offer more than 5,000 titles comprising more than 10,000 hours of programming under license. The acquisition of MHz Choice represents Kino Lorber’s latest, and largest, expansion into the streaming marketplace.
Kino Lorber president & CEO Richard Lorber said: “MHz’s track record of curating best-in-class series from around the world has helped it build one of the most loyal subscriber audiences in streaming. At a time when Hollywood mega-streamers are going bigger and broader, we like the idea of going deeper into specialized content to super-serve the most discerning audiences. Our highly curated approach helps us stand out from other streamers, and makes MHz Choice the perfect companion platform for audiences seeking prestige entertainment in an accessible way.”
