Buccaneer & Halcyon Studios partner to adapt CJ Tudor’s ‘The Drift’
London-based Buccaneer and LA’s Halcyon Studios are teaming up to adapt CJ Tudor’s upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller novel The Drift.
The book, which will be published PRH imprints Penguin Michael Joseph in the UK and Ballantine in the US in January 2023, tells the story of three different groups of teens who find themselves thrown into the terrifying reality of a frozen post-apocalyptic world.
As one group is involved in a coach crash, another wakes suspended across a ravine in a broken-down cable car, and the third hunkers down in an isolated ski chalet known as “The Retreat”.
As each group battles for survival, lurking in their shadows is an even greater danger—one that threatens to consume all of humanity.
Tudor is the author behind The Chalk Man, The Other People and The Hiding Place and Buccaneer is currently already in production on an adaptation of her fourth thriller The Burning Girls.
Interest in The Drift was high, thought the rights eventually went to the UK’s Buccaneer, which is behind Marcella for ITV and Netflix and Irvine Welsh’s Crime for BritBox and ITVX, and US co-pro partner Halcyon, the Chicken Soup For the Soul Entertainment-owned firm behind Hunters for Amazon Prime Video and The Mysterious Benedict Society for Disney+.
Richard Tulk-Hart, joint CEO of Buccaneer, said “It’s great to be working on another of CJ’s books and bring it to the screen. Partnering with Halcyon Studios is incredibly exciting and something we’ve looked to do for some time. The scale of this project finally brought us together’.
“The Drift is a masterful squall of suspense and we’re thrilled to transforming CJ’s novel into a riveting series alongside Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart,” added David Ellender CEO of Halcyon Studios.”
