Warners veteran lands at Italy’s Bamboo to lead int’l operations
Italian prodco Bamboo Production has hired former WarnerMedia exec Thomas J Ciampa as chief of international operations.
Ciampa will play a major role in the development of all international projects at the Marco Belardi-led firm, with the first on the slate seeing Giuseppe Tornatore return to write and direct a TV series of his 1988 Oscar-winner Nuovo Cinema Paradiso.
Bamboo Production was launched earlier this year by Belardi, the former head of Lotus Production, which was behind titles including Perfect Strangers and There Is No Place Like Home.
Ciampa spent 25 years working for Warner Bros. in Italy, before his exit as country manager for Italy, Spain and Portugal in June, which saw him replaced by Alessandro Araimo as part of the restructuring caused by the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. His responsibilities had included theatrical distribution and local productions in Italy and Spain.
“It is a great privilege to be part of the team at Bamboo. Marco is one of the most talented producers in Italy and I feel honoured to support the company as it grows to become an important and dynamic international player,” said Ciampa, according to Variety, which first reported news of his hiring.
Belardi said: “It’s an honor for me to welcome Thomas in our team, a highly experienced and capable professional. We are certain that with his support, Bamboo will make a great leap forward in the international arena.”
